DRIKUS HATTINGH played in many international games, including seven tests. He was also a very good athlete and won several shot put competitions as well as earning Junior Springbok colours in that event.
When ICU met with Drikus he did not want to speak much about his achievements on the sport fields. Drikus became a committed Christian recently and he said he'd rather say something about the illegal steroids he used to enhance his performances as a sportsman.
Drikus says, apart from it being a health risk, it is now his belief that steroids are also wrong from a Christian point of view. You are suppose to use the power of the Lord and not some artificial power. It goes completely against God's objective and the reason why He created you. It is not natural and is definitely a kind of drug.
Of course, Drikus says, some people have more talent in the sporting area than others, but that talent comes from God and you have the obligation to enhance your performance through practising and other natural ways to become the sportsman God wants you to be.
The problem with steroids is that it becomes a substitute for God's blessing and in the end you are deeply involved in self-worship and become alienated from God.
Drikus says the highlight of his living career was when Jesus Christ became his Personal Saviour. |
