What We Do... Alfred and Belinda are both full time missionaries, although Belinda's first priority is the children. Currenlty they are involved with the following: Church Leader Training in Masoyi Alfred's main ministry is the training of church leaders in Masoyi. Many of the church leaders in this area have little or no theological training. The need for training is very big in Masoyi! He gives informal training in small groups, like the one in the photo. By building relationships with the poeple, they become more and more open. Language Aquisition - Swazi To train the people effectively and to really connect to or identify with the people, it is necessary to learn their language. Although Masoyi is a mixture of many different cultures and languages, Swazi is the general language understood by all. Swazi is close to Zulu, which is the most spoken language in South Africa. Don't think it's a simple language! No, it's quite advanced and structured! Alfred is busy learning the language since Jauary 2001 and he can already have a conversation in Swazi. However, it will still take him some time and effort (and faith) to preach and lecture in Swazi! Mozambique Hub The Mozambique Hub is an organization that aims at reaching the least reached people groups in Mozambique with the Gospel. The Hub's function is primarily facilitation and networking. The Hub works to support short and long-term missionaries as well as motivating individuals and churches to become involved in Mozambique. In 2001, Alfred was elected as the chairman of the Mozambique Hub. Thanks to technology, much of the work can be done via email and the Internet! See the Mozambique Hub website for more detail. Walk Thru the Bible (WTB) Belinda is a World Teacher (instructor for WTB). She regularly presents WTB courses for cellgroups, students from ASM, or anyone interested. They find the WTB to be excellent and therefor they would like to share it with other people.
Mother & child Bible study group Belinda has a group of mothers with their children that attend a weekly Bible study at our house. Currently there are 4 mothers attending, apart from Belinda, and 9 children. The mothers are definitvely outnumbered! While the children enjoy playing together, the mothers have a Bible study, however, it is never guaranteed that there will be no interruptions! Currenlty they are doing the WTB course "The Prayer of Jabez".
Zulu Translation of Building on Firm Foundations Alfred is heading up this project to translate the material that he is using for the church leader training. It's excellent material that has been translated into many languages world wide. In order to make it posible for poeple from Masoyi to teach the material to others, it needs to be in their language - therefor the need to translate it. The vision is also to make it available to all Zulu-speaking people in South Africa! Missions Committee Alfred is also on the missions committee of the church he attends in White River. |
